The last Olympian
Characters: The gang is all here this book is jam packed with so many characters that naming them all would take up most of the insight on them. Percy, Grover, Luke, nico, Rachael, annabeth,Thalia, tyson and even a villain with the same name as the publishing company. After 4 books you really see all these characters grow Percy finally starts acting his age and stops making repetitive mistakes, Annabeth shows how much she cares for percy as well as showing her smarts Thalia is still the most kick butt girl in the book, Nico also shows how awesome he is is it weren't for the fact that they are cousins thalia and nico would be a good couple and luke shows that well he's not all bad. However the downfall is they are similar to another well know just turned into a second part of a movie book which makes not as invested also what some characters do ruin how the fans see them some character deaths could have been more deep if we knew who they were over all the characters proved themselves in this last installment A
Story: Similar to how the characters shared similarity action wise to another well know just turned into a second part of a movie book the story also falls in this way also it unlike that well known book this story didn't grow up while reading you still know it's for younger teens and middle grade it doesn't feel like something an older audience would be as emotionally invested in. The fight scenes were well done, the character deaths are emotional but they would get a better response from the reader if we knew who the character was this last book blasts us with so many characters it's really hard to keep up why we should care about whats her name because we don't even remember if they did anything important outside of this one book. Drama, action, mystery, romance, and plot twists this book has them all and more while the drama and action was spot on for any age the humor was a hit and miss while the jokes were funny some felt a little to young for an older age group the plot twists were nice and kept this story from falling into your usual end of a series story yet at the same time if your favorite character was Thalia or nico or even luke you might be very disappointment in what happens with their screen time while it is epic it might not be what you are expecting. There is the mystery if luke's past while this is exciting there is a few things amiss with it one thing being that there is no build up from the previews books it's just “wham oh yeah what about lukes past you interested here it is” and not even with a straight answer you have to piece together the puzzle and by the end you hope you have it figured out. The other thing with his past is again you see non of this “he's not evil” thing in previous books it seems almost tact on that we are suppose to think he is an anti-hero and like him after disliking him for so long. This story was good and fast past till the last two chapters where is fell but over all this story was not bad and Rick Riordan got his mojo back in this one B
Cover: Percy jackson on black jack the colors of a sickly green and black all over again “classic” we all know what it looks like but again this doesn't say anything about that will happen inside the book it's self its not eye catching but it's not bland just is C
Rating: MG/Younger side of YA
Company: Disney hyperion books
My rating : 5 of 5 I had high expectations for this book. I had a dream after it started to pick up with nico and his plan and it was epic with him having percy's soul and having to get something from this court room and him being all “I'm the king fear me” then I woke up and read the next few chapters and..my dream was more epic then nico's actual plan in the book. I felt some jokes were a little to young and some things were a little bit “what” also I feel nico got jipped and could have had better screen time moments but this was fun although too perfect and the character deaths didn't seem as sad like in harry potter 7 when fred, lupin, and tonks died you FELT it because you knew them it wasn't “oh heres a character who has a name dead” with no real reason in the plot other then to die example one girl from on cabin dies and for the whole book I'm wracking my brain trying to remember why she is important and I couldn't come up with a thing. The only reason I felt sad is because a specific character felt sad but even that didn't make me cry because I didn't know the character that well. Over all not a bad book at all I liked the mystery and nico and like that.
